The photograph is of the war memorial at the top of Mt. Greylock in Williamstown, MA. I hike Greylock frequently. This picture was taken shortly after the start of the Iraq War. Clearly (and sadly), there will need to be memorials built for this was too. The poem is unusual (for me) in that it’s in free verse.
I’ve long believed that we create ourselves by our responses–to situations, to challenges, and of course, to some basic questions. Using journalism’s “4 w’s and and h”, I tried to explore some interesting, defining questions.
“Keep your feet on the ground and your eyes on the sky”—”and of course, above all to thine own self be true.”
The Republicans lost the midterm election, and it looked to me like America was finally waking up!
As this says, “who writes thes things is another who than me, if I let the light through.” That’s where this conversation about change and truth came from.
