Holiday 2004

Bush had just “won” re-election. As I was writing this, I wasn’t at all sure how it would come out. I kind of surprised myself with the ending.

Holiday 2005

Katrina was followed by the Tsunami in the far east. A friend told me about how he and members of his church got in a truck and went to New Orleans to help folks rebuild. I read of other stories like this–and they blew me away.

Holiday 2006

The Republicans lost the midterm election, and it looked to me like America was finally waking up!

Holiday 2007

It astonished me that the media gave such short shrift to the huge anti-war demonstrations that filled DC the the fall of 2007. I especially like the green left turn arrow in the pic of the Capitol, and the “Republicans for Voldemort” bumper sticker that was taken from one of the protest signs.

Holiday 2008

I was much cheered by Obama’s election, by the promise of “change you can believe in”. More important, though, was the seeming populist awakening that his candidacy represented–an awakening of individual and collective responsibility and I consider essential.
