Not an “occasional” poemograph–this was just for the hell of it. I don’t remember what prompted it, but I clearly was (am) frustrated with the glacial pace of positive change.
“To have the good fortune to know your good fortune and so know good fortune indeed”–rarely does an opening come to me so strongly. This would not let go until I finished the piece. I rarely title these, but this one demanded to be called “Blessing”–for obvious reasons.
I often felt that the commercial greetings that I bought were so much less than I wanted to say, so I resolved to create a new birthday greeting of my own each year. It helps that a good friend’s birthday is on January 6!
An award for community service to the Miami GLBT community has been given out for years–first from the Dade Human Rights Foundation, and more recently by the Task Force. In 2007, the award was renamed in honor of a longtime community leader and contributor, Eddy McIntyre, who died way before his time. I was the honored recipient of the first renamed award.
