I’ve long believed that we create ourselves by our responses–to situations, to challenges, and of course, to some basic questions. Using journalism’s “4 w’s and and h”, I tried to explore some interesting, defining questions.

Not long before this was written, we lost our beloved dog Boris. Like Annie Lennox sings–”what won’t kill you will make you strong.” It didn’t kill us. The “stand we took with ours” refers to our commitment ceremony.

This magical photograph is of our youngest nephew (who happens to also be our Godchild), playing on the shore at Sanibel island. I “heard” the first and last lines of this poem, and the rest wrote itself as fast as any piece I ever did.

I’ve learned a great deal about living life from my folks, and we’re extremely lucky to be celebrating their 60 years together this year.
