Holiday 1998
This was one of the few efforts where I abandoned rhyme. I found after a while that I missed it, missed the structure and challenge.
A good friend keeps this sign around:
“Life is not a proving ground
but rather
an
improving
ground.”
Useful advice.
Lately I’ve been looking
at
P A T I E NCE
cause let’s just say that
my ground there
can use some improving.
Results take time;
so does getting somewhere.
But, I’m learning
the
journey’s
worth taking.
Really being present for.
Not that the result’s insignificant
(yes, Anita, there is a human rights
ordinance in Miami-Dade County)
but I’ve found that when I’m patient,
when I’m just
where I am
when I’m there,
I notice things.
Lots.
Like the birds living in the park next door.
The way the orchid trees smell
as I skate by happy.
Inside things.
Like I’m lucky.
It’s sixteen years later and I’m still here.
It’s seriously unlikely that I’ll ever lack the basics:
food, shelter, clothing
not in this lifetime anyway.
I love and am loved.
I’m stimulated and satisfied all at the same time.
Blessed. Truly.
P A T I E NCE
Blessings follow.
